MVC Industry Overview

Since our inception in 2002, Machine Vision Consulting has been an integral solutions provider in the Semiconductor and Electronics industry. We have worked with leading firms on both R&D and practical machine vision solutions such as PCB inspection, end defects in a fiber bundle, and microscopic flow visualization.

Electronic Component Inspection

The Machine Vision System detects defects in electronic components. Base plates for an electronic manufacturer’s components were inspected manually, which was a time consuming process with the potential for human error.

MVC fully automated this process that communicates directly to customer’s web service over Ethernet. Components are now imaged & inspected for all inspection attributes, eliminating human error from the process. Fail safe controls are in place to ensure defective plates are not permitted to pass down stream in the manufacturing process. MVC’s system revolutionized the inspection methodology & ultimately cut customer costs.

System & Vision Requirements

Inspection station must have an up-time of 99.7% or better
Capable of inspecting for the following attributes using a single In-Sight camera:
- base plate type
- pocket width
- liner color
- glue pattern
- solder presence, and
- slot size
Cycle time must not exceed 30 seconds per pallet
No change over time between product types
Pallet inspection results communicated to customer’s web service
The system will not release pallets that fail until an Operator intervenes at the PC
Gantry/inspection system must be able to cover an area of 12” x 12” with no image quality impact
Inspection system must mount to a 24” long conveyor
Height of the system not to exceed 25” above the pallet surface
