Coffee Can Lid Seal Inspection
Machine Vision System for verifying the seal integrity on coffee cans. The seal is formed with the cover material and the top of the cylindrical product container. In the creation of the seal, it is possible that the thermal bonding process does not create a complete seal all the way around the rim of the product container. The vision system verifies that the seal is complete with no breaks or gaps.
The vision system uses an IR (long wavelength) camera to capture an image of the product immediately after the seal is applied. A correctly sealed product will provide an image where the seal shows up as a ring with a constant temperature profile. An incorrectly sealed product will present a ring with an uneven temperature profile.
